About Our Scholarships & Grants

Below is information about seminary education scholarships and grants available from Resurrection Foundation as well as other resources commonly obtained by students pursuing ministry as a career.

The Foundation has one common electronic application for all seminary scholarships. Your application will be matched with available Foundation funds. Please be prepared to complete the application in one sitting. You can review the form to collect information you will need to fill out the application by clicking on Apply for a Resurrection Scholarship button below.

Qualifications for Scholarships (unless otherwise noted below):

  • Active member of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection for at least 1 year.
  • Declared/Certified candidate for ministry.
  • Enrolled at an accredited/approved United Methodist seminary.

Important Dates:

  • Scholarship Application due date (unless otherwise noted): March 25, 2022
  • Scholarship Award notification: June 30, 2022

For tuition grants, please submit a separate request for each semester or class using the Tuition Grant Request button below. The tuition grant deadline will be after the drop/add date for the term requested. Tuition grant requests remain open all year.

Funds awarded may be used only for tuition, fees, and/or textbooks. Funds will be disbursed to the institution with proof of enrollment and an invoice/statement for the cost of your program.

Tuition Grants

Amount: Varies

Requirements:

  • Approved Inquiring Candidate in first year of seminary or Declared and Certified Candidate for Ordained Ministry.
  • A copy of your class schedule and an invoice of your registration costs is required with this submission (after add/drop date of your school). Please email a copy of class schedule to foundation@cor.org.

Seminary Education Scholarship

Amount: Varies

Requirements:

  • Enrolled at an accredited/approved United Methodist seminary or approved Course of Study.

Builder’s Class Scholarship

Amount: Varies

Requirements:

  • Active Resurrection pastor seeking advanced theological studies.
  • Recommended candidate for Licensed Local Pastor, having completed undergraduate work.
  • Enrolled at an accredited/approved United Methodist seminary or approved Course of Study.

New Generation Scholarship

Amount: $15,000 maximum allocated based on number of years of seminary coursework remaining.

Continuing eligibility in each subsequent year requires:

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA or equivalent in seminary coursework.
  • Maintain status as a declared/certified candidate for ministry.
  • Provide transcript to Foundation.

Requirements:

  • Age 40 or younger at the beginning of their first seminary academic year.

Dollars for Scholars

Amount: $1,000 per year.

The Dollars for Scholars application and all required documents must be postmarked back to UM Dollars for Scholars no later than March 1 each year.

To receive $1,000 check from the Resurrection Foundation to be matched through this program you must provide your completed confirmation form provided by UM Dollars for Scholars to the Resurrection Foundation by February 15 each year, no exceptions.

Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time degree program (graduate or undergraduate) at a United Methodist-related college/university or seminary in the United States.
  • Student pursuing vocational ministry career.
  • International students must be attending a United Methodist-related institution in the United States.

Thuma Scholarship

Amount: Varies

Renewable for up to two additional years, demonstrating:

  • Proof of continued enrollment.
  • Submission of transcript to Foundation with cumulative 3.2 GPA in seminary coursework.

Requirements:

  • United Methodist Church active member who has been called by God to serve as an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church.
  • Declared Candidate for United Methodist ministry and attending Saint Paul’s School of Theology.
